One more tooth on the front sprocket equals about three fewer teeth on the rear sprocket: isn't that stretching the gear ratio too much? I have the impression that this will reduce the bike's acceleration, and I'm not sure that the top speed will increase, because the engine might not have enough power to reach the higher RPMs that it could theoretically achieve with the new ratio.
Hi, i found the gearing to high with a 16t sprocket before when engine was stock, now with all the mods done the bike pulls well now, 🥲5th still feels like an overdrive and needs changing down on hills or strong headwinds to maintain over 50mph, but on the whole the bike feels more relaxed with lower revs generally, stock gearing is still better for my local hill roads or odd bimble off road and prob go back to stock before winter
Fab ride Bruce the Classic singing away beautifully 👍
Thanks for listening 😁👍👍
Dithering over purchasing a RE, is yours holding up well rust wise? I have a worn out Honda CBF 250 and basically sprayed it with WD 40/GT85and hosed it down over winter when I could. Dont think its much worse but was hesitant on getting something newer that may potentially not last well. Any thoughts?
The only thing that does not hold up well to winter use on the Classic 350 is the non stainless spokes that get a white fuzz on them, apart from that the bike had been rust free despite living outdoors uncovered 👍
@@Coastriderscotland Thanks for the reply, very helpful 👍
Brilliant trip, I thoroughly e joyed it thanks
Thanks for watching Andy, glad you enjoyed the mini series 😁👍
😊Brilliant t scenes and great roads especially on l Classic 350 thank you ,
😁👍👍👍
Thanks for the greta golden fields 😀 Summer, finally 😎
Harvest should start end of July! 😜😁👍👍
Nothing better than a nice ride out of work, and even better on roads like that! When I was working my commute was through built up area's in heavy traffic, but in the summer I'd make up for it by going out after tea for a ride, but now I'm retired I can go wherever it suits! But I wouldn't mind working again if it meant going along those roads your on! 😅😅 Cheers, have a good week Bruce 👍 Mel .
Thanks Mel, starting today thats me working 14 days straight with next week the Scottish Open, be split shifts but i get 4 commute rides a day! Perfect! 😜😁👍👍
@@Coastriderscotland blimey! that's a busy fortnight!

Allways nice to see a sunny non rainy ride out, lovely jubbly 😊 Pooped after 212 miles yesterday. Best regards.😊
Nice work Mark! Aye you will be tired today!
Great ride Bruce, as usual. 😎 Barley and potatoes... hmmm = Scotch and Chips. 😉 Cheers 🥃
Oh yes! 😜😁👍🥃🥃
Nice one Bruce. Warhorse does seem better with the extra tooth. Fitted my one, just got to get out on it now.
Hi Phil it just pootles along at lower revs now in 5th around 50 mph, drop a cog or two and away it roars! 😁👍
Amazing
Thanks! 😁👍
What a lovely ride. You wasted no time getting away from work. Seems like you only need second and third gears now, perhaps it feels like a more relaxed ride?
It’s more relaxing now while its got the pull if you want to rev it! 😁👍
Great videos. I was parked in my truck being loaded at Fenton barns last week, and was sure I heard the familiar distinctive sound of your bike coming along, stopping and turning there.🤔😁👍
Probably be me Brian, bike has a distinctive exhaust note and for a modern bike sounds nice 😁👍
A great video for a Monday morning! I thoroughly enjoyed that!😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Steven, day one of 14 days done, comp starts next Monday and split shifts so twice the commutes on Warhorse! 😜😁👍
Saw a video about Honda's new CB350. It is suppose to be better than the 350 you are riding. I am wondering if the Honda could handle going up into the Himilayans. Royal Enfield 350s are used in some pretty rough riding. RE builds good strong bikes.
Hi, i don’t think the Honda will have the character of the Enfield 😁it will be a bombproof reliable bike in typical Honda style but so had the Classic 350 been bombproof reliable 😁👍👍

If you can find them use brass o-ring picks. Sometimes the steel picks will scratch the aluminum and make a leak. Or make your own out of a brazing rod.
Thats a good suggestion Justin thank you! 👍😁
🥁🎉 Bruce all the best and health☺️
Thank you 😁👍🥃
Bike sounds great no matter. Happy belated Bruce ! Tack on another 12 years as of last May and I also was gifted a bottle of whisky ! Received my 1st old guy cheque this month. Maybe I'll buy another bike. 😂 Cheers.🥃
Thanks Lance, save up for a Jeep! 😜👍🥃
Toujours aussi intéressant vos vidéos ! Et vive l’Ecosse 😊

Hi Bruce. I think of all the jobs I'm going to do on my Hotchkiss, the one I'm looking forward to most is putting the markings on. Remember when we were kids and no matter how crap our completed Airfix kit looked, the decals ALWAYS made it look brilliant. Maybe I haven't spotted it yet, but is there a video up of the jeep getting repainted? Mine is coming to me in NATO green. Also, do you have an email address ? Many thanks....Mike
Hi Mike, i painted the Jeep to freshen it up a few months ago and strangely i cannot find the film i did, repainted 42 Olive Drab using a foam roller, you can email me at coastkid71@yahoo.co.uk Cheers Bruce
That’s a fine wee bike fur these roads slow enough to take in the views as you go and comfortable to any rain forecast hope not lots to take in
Hi, been a great bike and so rewarding to ride and diy work on 😁👍
I love the way you rev it out through the gears. I do the same on my classic 500 and i think it goes all the better for it. My bike has over 10k on it and doesnt use a drop of oil either.
Hi Tim, i think they sound wonderful being opened up! 😜😁👍👍
Happy Birthday! One thing I like about watching your rides on the 350 is you don't baby it. It's nice to see how it goes when you work it a bit 😂.
Thanks David, these engines look and sound classic but can be opened up and take it no problem!, still never had to top up oil between services 😁👍
Another wonderful video, thank you. I love the bush fence lines, but do you every worry about animals jumping out in front of you? It seems like you wouldn't have much time to react.
Hi, yes i tend to sit out 2 3rds on my side as the odd Roe Deer or Hare can indeed run out, another reason this bike is fast enough for country roads 😁👍
Happy birthday Bruce it was my 63 on Monday and I was out on my Meteor 350 around the borders and a pub lunch at the Victoria Arms in Norham. Have a good one
Cheers Andrew! 😁👍🥃
Happy birthday young fella. I worked till 68 and will be 70 in a couple of months time. Enjoy your wee dram.
Cheers dondle! 😁🥃🥃🥃👍
If anyone were qualified to give a good opinion on the gearing, it'd be you Bruce 👍 Engine sounds much slower than usual for sure, shame they don't do a 15 and a half maybe 🤪 Happy Birthday too
Cheers Glyn! Be cool to see a film of you out in the Apocalypse Meteor this summer! 😜😁👍👍
5 gears ? In this economy ? Happy birthday, I hope that, like me, you are getting happier the closer retirement gets....
Hi Carl, i hope to pull all pensions at 55 when Partner G also plans to retire a month before myself! 😁👍👍🥃
Love the sound of the bike...Happy Birthday as well !
Thank you! 😁🥃
Happy birthday dude. Kindest regards Si ✊😎.
Thank you kindly Si 😜🥃👍
Thanks
Thank you Rodney very kind of you 😁👍👍👍
Happy Birthday! Its worth noting that the indicated speed may have altered too. I put an extra tooth on my honda 125 to try and stop it screaming its nuts off at 55, which it did but it also changed the speedo reading. It used to run about 3 mph faster than gps speed, now with the extra tooth it runs about 1 mph slower than gps. Its probably no bother to you up there, doesn't look like there is too many camera vans... different story down here.
Thanks Ashley, we have speed aware coming into some villages but they don’t book you just show your speed and slow down most folk ignore them now in the 20mph zones we have had over a year now 🤣😁 I noticed some of them are not that accurate when in cars, but good point you make about the change to speedometer that may happen 👍😁
Happy birthday young man 🎉 many more to come i am sure. Just a question about the speed limiter on the Enfield? Is it speed related or revs? Back in the day when we had a bike wouldn't pull top we put larger rear sprocket on to give it a fighting chance, obviously it increases acceleration in lower Gears and increasing fuel consumption but being young and feeling invincible we didn't care. All that matters at the end of the day is that you are happy with your motorcycle. Having lived in the two stroke era 70s owning many kawasaki, suzuki and yamaha adjustable clip ons and rearsets were derigour then fairings if you had better paid job. One of my favourites was an early RD 350lc raced tuned by stan Stephens i owned it for 3 years 17mpg no matter how you rode it. The legendary flat spot between 3-5000 rpm was made worse but omg when you kept it on the pipe it would wheelie at 70mph under hard acceleration it was geared for 120mph Happy days. My friends on moving up to kawasaki 1000 and gs 750 ect thought they would annihilate my little 350lc how wrong they were, i could stop faster corner faster. Keep up the vlogs if you can i know its hard to find time editing etc and we truly appreciate it when you can. Take care all the best Rod and Jan
Thanks for birthday wishes! 😁 the J series has a rev limiter on every gear and approx 73mph top speed limiter, you feel it cut in and out if nailing it, the gear ratio makes it impossible to hit the rev limiter in 5th which makes that noise when on it, like constant misfire, My friend had a Stan Stevens stage 2 tuned Lc350 it was nuts! It needed a few rebuilds i remember and thirsty on fuel but what a noise on Allspeed pipes! 😜👍👍👍
@@Coastriderscotlandlol oh yes new pistons twice a year was average in the end was running modified TZ pistons rattled like pit lane racer but extended pistons life, as you say complete hooligan tool..thanks for info on limiter seems very sophisticated. Ride safe
Congratulations 🎉 on your 53rd birthday 🎂 love your videos stay safe and upright. 😊
Thank you! Will do Alex! 😁👍🥃🥃
Hey coast rider, I'm thinking of putting off road tires to have better traction when checking on my livestock at my farm. I'd like to get more use of my classic even though pushing the limits. Something about using this old bike off-road I find satisfying. Question: what do you think would work to protect the gear shifter and break from tall grasses?
What you need are DIY brake snakes that cut grass etc You drill 2mm holes at end of gear and brake levers and thread a bicycle or old throttle cable through and loop it around frame and secure them using brass wire connectors, i should have done this and will fit them and do a film for you to see how to do it 😁👍 Cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland I think this might work better than my initial plan to duck tape a cover 😂 that’s a good plan
Subaru brat looks good , loved driving them on the road back in the day when I had summer jobs in Sutherland, handled great , brightened up my days at work cutting grass whilst getting eaten by midgies and cleggs.
I learned to drive around the estate in one the same colour as that one 😁 would go everywhere off road like waterlogged stubble fields etc! Seen a few imports from South Africa rust free and 5K a future classic for sure! 😁👍👍
Happy Birthday Grasshopper🥳
Thanks! 😜😁🥃👍
Happy birthday Bruce, have a good one 🥃
Thank you kindly Thomas 😁🥃🥃

Happy Birthday young'un! What whiskey did you get?
Thanks Andy, Glenmorangie, one of my favourites 😁🥃👍
Happy Birthday young man. Bike sounds great.
Thanks 👍 😁👍🥃
Warhorse is holding speed well with 16T. Sounds great too. The weather been so changeable 😢. I got so burnt at Powmill, on Sunday past. Top of need, forehead and nose, are red raw and sore. It’s affected my right eye. Which has been semi closed and weeping since Monday. ( am just an ole bugger now…lol)😂 Keep up the good work.
Mark, as you, me and Ferg where sitting in Bridge of Earn on Sunday I was regretting not having a hat to cover my head. On Monday morning there was a loud knocking on the door, a fat guy in a red suit was shouting "rudolph, get yerself home I could see the glow of that nose from the North Pole!" Geez I was red, my nose is peeling now, lesson learnt, carry factor 50 and a hat. Hope yours clears up soon.
Crikey Mark! Hope you feel better soon, we got the Scottish Open golf in two weeks and i see Wimbledon on soon so bound to rain again! 🤣🤣🤣
@@frankfeely9235 lol for sure Frank. We should have sat under bushes, beside the bikes…..lol
Happy birthday Coasty! In ma younger days I'd usually put a tooth less gearbox sprocket on ma bikes to make them easier tae lift the wheel in 2nd, but now ah'm auld the idea of a a tooth more to make the bike a bit less buzzy at the speeds ah cruise at appeals to me more. Part and parcel of gettin auld ah suppose.
Thanks Smokey 😁🥃👍 Aye old age changes what you desire and how you ride it 😁
Happy birthday, Bruce. Slainte Mhath. With the different sprocket, is there much difference when you pull away in first from a standstill? Especially uphill.
Thank you 🥃😁 The bike pulls ok higher geared with i think the air box mods being the most noticeable in low end pull 😁👍 be good to go back up to Applecross etc and see how it pulls there 😁
Happy Birthday. I can’t understand why people get so upset about people modding their bikes. If you don’t want to, don’t. It’s that simple. In every comment section of change reviews there is always someone saying “if you want ‘X’ you should have bought a different bike”. That’s probably true if what you really want is a 200hp superbike, but there’s nothing wrong with smoothing out the engine at higher speeds, or anything else you want to try for that matter. I prefer to keep my bikes mostly stock, but I enjoy seeing what people are able to do with their motorcycles. I don’t even really consider sprocket changes to be a performance mod. It just changes the riding style.
Thanks on birthday wishes 🥃😁 I have been more interested in making my bike look and sound older than it is - it will never sound like an old cast iron bullet but it rides trouble free daily and been bombproof reliable 😁👍👍
